Farm to Table Event- Pizza on the Farm

Table setup. Photographs by Catilin Claire.

A few months behind schedule, but I am finally sitting down to share about our “Pizza on the Farm” event that we hosted in September. We pooled together some fabulous Sauk County, Wisconsin locals and hosted a pizza night that was one for the books. Three years ago we changed gears and started processing our beef locally so it could be sold within our community. We had a strong desire to be able to serve our friends and neighbors and with that we wanted to be able to welcome them on our farm so they could experience fresh, local food from our farm to their table. Eating a quality meal together as a family has always been something we value and we love to share that passion with our customers and supporters. Sharing our love for locally sourced food with our favorite people was the motivation behind hosting our first pizza on the farm event.

This event wouldn’t have been possible without the helping hands of so many fabulous locals. The following friends and businesses helped us curate a night to remember:

The Branding Iron

For years, we have been traveling to a little bar in Lime Ridge, WI, The Branding Iron, for their wood-fired pizza nights. They pride themselves in serving up a creative menu using locally sourced ingredients. We knew that they would be an excellent fit to help us bring this event to life. Sourcing the food from our farm and neighboring farms was a priority for us. The ingredients came from Gavin Farms, Orange Cat Community Farm, Balanced Rock Winery, Hidden Valley Mushroom Farm, and Carr Valley Cheese.

Christopher Gold Music

Guests were seated behind the farm on vintage tables and chairs to listen to the talented Christopher Gold. Chris was kind enough to travel from Appleton, WI to entertain the crowd with a variety of his own folk music, storytelling, and humor. His son Oliver even helped with the encore!

Balanced Rock Winery

Balanced Rock Winery is a fabulous new winery in Baraboo, WI. Not only is their wine top notch, they also host a variety of fun events at the winery from live music, and bingo nights, to charcuterie classes. Our jalapeño cheddar sausage has also been featured on their charcuterie boards. Their love for the community runs deep, so we were so excited to serve up their wine for our guests. Not only is their wine great for sipping, we also often use it when preparing a variety of our beef dishes. The Gavin Farms’ short ribs that were featured on the pizza menu were braised in their Chateau Red Blend.

Rebekah Disch Design

Beautiful design and paper goods get me every time and Rebekah from Rebekah Disch Design somehow always knows how to read my mind better than I even can explain myself. She has brought so many of my ideas to life but these were exactly the simple, yet inviting farm fresh menus and invites I was looking for. The barn on the invites was inspired by the barn on our farm. For me, the personal touch and details of paper goods are always the icing on the cake.

Caitlin Claire Studio

If you have been around for a bit, you are all familiar with Caitlin of Caitlin Claire Studio. She has an eye for not only capturing the details but for also telling a story with her imagery. We are forever grateful to have her share her talents for timeless photography with us. Our journey wouldn’t be the same without her.

Vintage Charm

Warm, vintage style was scattered throughout by using pieces from the stockpile of auction and flea market finds that I have collected over the years. We strive to create a warm and inviting ambiance and we hope the vintage pieces helped create a welcoming atmosphere for all of our guests.

Thank You

The goal of this event was to host an evening that recognizes our customers and everyone that has helped us become who we are today. As first generation farmers, we are very grateful for the community of friends and neighbors that are willing to share their time and knowledge with us. We are so blessed to be surrounded by friends and family that share our passions for community, agriculture, and fresh local food. Thank you to each and every one of you that are a part of our journey. We have exciting things planned for this year, so keep an eye out for our 2020 beef sales and events.
